In 1923, Southeastern Union Church was chartered with
approximately 40 adult members and their families. Prior to this Southeastern
had existed as a neighborhood Sunday School meeting in a few local homes. They
met in what is now the fellowship hall (basement) until the sanctuary was
finished in 1927.
With God’s grace and leadership Southeastern flourished as
a non-denominational community church through the 50’s and 60’s. The education
wing ( back half ) was completed in the mid 1950’s as Southeastern continued
it’s role as a God led, neighborhood focused, community church.
By the early 1970’s due to demographics, financial issues
and pastoral supply issues Southeastern opted to align itself with a
denomination and became Southeastern United Church of Christ. What followed was
a sometimes harmonious, sometimes tumultuous 30-year relationship with the
U.C.C. which ended in 2003.
This separation divided Southeastern in many ways but as
our numbers grew smaller our resolve grew stronger and we believe God is leading
us again to become a small community church, reaching out to our neighborhood
and making a difference in the lives around us. Our new name, Southeastern
Christian Fellowship, reflects our focus on Christ and our fellowship mission
with the community. Please consider sharing our mission. You would truly be
welcome in this house of the Lord.
